The Story
On a stormy wedding night, rain pelted the stained-glass windows of Count Jackie’s ancient castle. Lightning danced across the sky, briefly illuminating the lavish decor inside the ballroom. Chandeliers shimmered, music echoed, and guests whispered about the strange gloom clouding what should have been a grand celebration. Diana stood at the altar, her eyes brimming with confusion and dread, scanning the crowd for Finn—the man she loved. Instead, she saw only indifference in his eyes.
"Finn," she whispered. "Save me... please."
But Finn turned his back. His once-loving gaze had grown icy. That night, Diana was forcibly wed to Alex, Count Jackie’s sickly son, whose pale complexion and labored breathing spoke of his short, cursed life. Unbeknownst to the guests, Alex had died hours before the wedding. His corpse was dressed in finery, a puppet in a grotesque ritual.
According to local legend, a man who dies unmarried suffers eternal torment. The Count, unwilling to let his only son suffer in the afterlife, ordered Diana’s burial alive with Alex, forcing the wedding to proceed.
As vows were exchanged, Diana’s cries went unheard beneath the orchestra’s melody. Bound and struggling, she was placed inside a coffin next to the corpse. Her pleas faded as the lid closed. She screamed, scratched, and clawed, but the earth soon muffled her existence. Her final words: "I will not forgive you..."
Beneath the moonlight, thunder roared. Then, the earth cracked. From Diana’s grave, a hand emerged. A hiss followed. Her skin had shed; her eyes now glowed crimson. The spirit of a serpent cursed into Alex had transferred into her. No longer mortal, Diana slithered into vengeance, her soul bound by betrayal and injustice.
The following morning, Bonita—Count Jackie’s daughter and Finn’s secret lover—sat in front of her vanity, applying blush and admiring herself in the mirror. Behind her, a white bridal veil appeared, hovering, then slithering across the floor.
"Who's there?!" Bonita asked, turning quickly.
Nothing. Silence.
Then, with a hiss, Diana's serpentine form struck from the ceiling. Half-woman, half-serpent, her voice trembled with fury.
"Give me back my life."
"No... no... Diana, please! I was wrong!"
"Wrong won’t bring me back."
Diana's fangs sank in. The next moment, Bonita's lifeless body was found slumped over her makeup table, face marred by the same cross once carved into Diana's.
News spread rapidly. Count Jackie, devastated, called Finn.
"Find the killer, you useless coward!"
Finn, however, knew too much. His guilt grew. When they exhumed Diana's grave to find answers, they found only empty soil—and thousands of snakes erupting into the daylight, hissing, wrapping themselves around coffins, slithering through mourners' legs.
Soon after, the Count began seeing things. Shadows moved when no one walked. He heard whispers in the dark. Then, one night, a gust blew out every candle in his room. Diana, in her serpentine form, hovered in front of him.
"You’ll all pay..."
The Count fell to his knees, screaming. Her eyes, glowing and vengeful, were the last thing he saw. A serpent's mark scarred his face as he fell dead.
Now alone, Finn lived in terror. Every corridor whispered Diana's name. Every mirror showed her flickering reflection. Then one night, she came.
"Why did you betray me, Finn? I trusted you. Loved you."
Tears streamed down Finn's face.
"Please, Diana... forgive me."
But as Diana moved closer, he pulled out a dagger, stabbing her side.
"You're still weak," he hissed. "A pawn. Always were."
Diana fell to her knees. "You never loved me?"
"Love? You were my stepping stone. Nothing more."
Diana's eyes closed, then opened with resolve. "Then you deserve this."
As she summoned her final power, two figures stepped from the darkness—Bonita and the Count.
"What? You’re alive?!"
Diana smiled. "My venom heals... when I choose."
They turned to Finn.
"You betrayed not just me... but them."
Finn stepped back, trembling.
"Please... please no!"
Diana whispered, "Your punishment is worse than death."
With a snap, Finn's body contorted. Scales replaced skin. His screams turned to hisses. His eyes widened as he saw his reflection: a serpent.
Alone. Powerless. Forgotten.
Each night, he hears Diana's cries. Each dream is a nightmare. And in every shadow, she waits. Watching. Smiling.
For some, death is the end. For others, it's where vengeance begins.
